Product Overview

The Virtual To Virtual serial port product allows pairs of serial ports to be connected. Data written to one Virtual Serial Port (TX Data) may be immediatly read from the other Virtual Serial Port as receive data (RX Data), and visa versa. Similarly modem control lines (such as RTS/CTS, DSR/DTR, etc) are also cross connected between the two serial port devices.

If you are familiar with a simple cabling network known as a "Null Modem" device, you will recognize that Virtual To Virtual acts as a Virtual Null Modem device. Source code for this component is also available in the VSP SDK.

The Virtual to Virtual product is a component of a package called the "VSP Core".

The Virtual Serial Port Software is a completely functional product which is provided for evaluation purposes. After about 6 hours of use, a nag screen appears requiring the user to take action to restore the functionality of the VSP for another 6 hour period. If Virtual To Virtual is run no parameters, or invalid parameters to following dialog box is displayed. This dialog box serves as a guide to Virtual To Virtual parameters.

Parameters may be specified to Virtual To Virtual either on the command line, or through a GUI menu item shortcut accessable from the Windows Start button. Also, the names of the corresponding virtual serial ports (generically described here as COMA and COMB) can be setup using the AddPort utility. Consult the VSP Core Users Guide and Reference Manual for more information.
